Louise and I had an offer on a house accepted today. It’s in Hitchin near the station. We won’t be moving in very soon though, because it needs a lot of work. It needs rewiring, central heating installing, maybe a couple of chimney breasts removing, dry sealing of the cellar, a new kitchen, a new bathroom, a door moving, one or two sheds dismantling, etc…
Anyone know a builder?!
I know a chap called Bob.
Can he fix it?

Wow, so this is what Seals’ life is like? I have stumbled on his blog, got 4/12 on the biology test and enjoyed the shitzu joke.

DreamHost seem like a good ISP. I’m using them for personal stuff (like this blog) and for this year’s Birkbeck course (including student Web space) and Kieren is using them for some personal stuff and for the Amateur Entomologists’ Society site. We’re both pretty happy with them.
And from referrals, I’ve already made enough to cover my hosting for next year!

Everyone is moderated initially, but you’re now not.
So is your host providing your blob or are you maintaining the software? Is blog software suitable for maintaining a low content, personnel news and photos site?

I installed the software myself. Although DreamHost will automatically install WordPress for you if you want (and phpBB, Gallery, osCommerce, etc…) although I’m not sure about maintenance if you do that.
DreamHost is pretty flexible. This is running under a version of PHP that I compiled myself.
I reckon blogs are perfect for maintaining some personal sites. Paul’s blog (currently at http://ccgi.drpaulfisher.plus.com/wordpress/ although it should be at http://www.fishstock.info/) was a great way of keeping up with news about A-M’s pregnancy.

Also – who on earth are Sarah Beany & Kevin McCloud? It’s bad enough not knowing who the hell the “celebrities” in the USA are without losing track of what’s going on in UK as well.
TV here is sh*t. And BBC America only has programs 2 years old – though I do love the Black Adder & Fawlty Tower re-runs. Have I missed anything in the world outside america?
