Bias

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Jimbo and I heard a classic line in the pub on Sunday whilst watching the Man Utd vs Arsenal game. The referee, Graham Poll, gave a free kick for a hand ball by a United player. The co-commentator, Andy Gray, defended the player, saying he couldn’t really get out of the way. And then we had the following conversation:

Random annoying bloke sitting next to us in the pub: “Andy Gray is really biased.”

Me: “Well he hasn’t really got any reason to be biased towards Man Utd.”

Annoying bloke: “He’s biased towards everyone.”

Horse Tip

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

So I was listening to Radio Five Live this morning in the shower and I heard Luke Harvey tip a horse called The Local in the 2:40 at Wincanton.

Now my friend Paul runs a Web site in Sweden called The Local, so I let him know. It didn’t take much to persuade him to put a tenner on.

But just before the race started, Paul revealed that there was a lot more than money and a tiny human riding on this horse. If The Local didn’t win then that was a bad omen for his namesake Web site.

Luckily, he romped home and won by three lengths. Paul made forty quid and I was pretty relieved.

He hasn’t offered me any of his winnings though.

Update: He bought me a very good bottle of wine just after Christmas!

Arsenal Members Day

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

I’ve finally made time to upload some pictures (almost all taken by Louise) from this year’s Arsenal Members Day. I think my favourite is the one of Neil and I with our badly dressed heroes.
